Andy's Springmount Trip
Well another trip up in the high country steered us to Herberton where we all met up at the Lions Park. Lead by our mobile country encyclopaedia Andy.
Thirteen vehicles turned out on a beautiful sunny morning. After a brief chat we were off through the back of Herberton and into the bush. Down through the Walsh as we idled our way up a small hill climb which became a bit slippery, especially for Terry. Once conquered we followed the power lines to a nice lookout for lunch. The views in all directions were spectacular. After a nice refuel and a cool drink we set off back the way we came but continued on to Irvinebank and on the way I decided, due to the slow speed of such a long convey, I would zig zag over the road (to keep tyre air temps up of course) only to see in the rear vision mirror much the same from participating members. Good to see guys and Gals.
Once in Irvinebank we walked around the old school and looked at the dam which had a nice trickle flowing across its length. Onward towards Dimbulah via many wash outs over the road. (Good thing I went slow and didn't spray water everywhere like some). Apparently, water can spray on your windscreen and make life very interesting until your wipers catch…. Apparently…..
We turned off the main road and headed up a bumpy track to a great waterfall. Where we all went for a walk over the rocks to inspect. Water falling over the rocks and water falling from the sky. mmmmm bit too damp so back to the vehicles and on our way again.
Plenty of banter over the airways as usual when Mick mentioned a large mound of rocks was near by and he called the location over the radio. Yes he had the location locked in (EDDIE) on his GPS. Apart from the fact that no one else had seen these rocks before, Mick and Sally assured us they were there and guess what…… they were….. So out for a few more pic's. Very interesting arrangement of stone. Another marvel of nature.
We were soon on the black stuff and cruising through Dimbulah and on to Mareeba where we said our farewells. Contrary to comments made I live in Tolga and not at Club Lotus…..
So a big thank-you to Andy for sharing is knowledge of the tablelands and leading a great day.
Regards Dave Graham
